 Dragon Eggs
Liza Phoenix, 2002

A tropical dragon, its tail curling like a snake around its hoard of precious eggs. The heat of the jungle aids the creature in its incubation, allowing it to produce far more eggs than it can accommodate under its scaly body, even if it unfurls its silky black wings that absorb and radiate the heat of the day. Its claws clasp the pods, safe in the knowledge that their flexible membrane wont be punctured, for these are similar to our modern day crocodile eggs with soft shells. There is no need for camouflage here with such a magnificent protector; the eventual scale shade of the young are shown in the jelly-bean colours of the shells and grow darker as the time of hatching approaches.
