Banshee
A female spirit or fairy being who cries out in the night to warn of impending death. Banshees originated in Ireland but have now spread to all corners of the globe.
Their appearance varies depending on the region, but typically they resemble human women and may appear filmy or ghost-like. Most have long hair and dress in long robes or capes that may be green, gray, white or black.
Some do not practice personal hygiene and may have stringy hair and black teeth, while others take great care with their appearance. Often they have red eyes and appear to have been crying.
Also known as Bean Sidhe, Bean Nighe, women of the hills, and washer of the shrouds.
