Gorgon
A gorgon is a ghastly female being with live snakes for hair, the sight of which turns the beholder to stone. Gorgon also refers to any ugly or terrifying being.
In Greek mythology, the gorgons were three sisters, Medusa, Euryale, and Sthenno, who lived at the edge of the world in the Kingdom of Night.
They have been described as young women with round faces, flat noses, huge tusk-like teeth, and lolling tongues. Sometimes they have golden wings, brazen claws, and bodies covered with impenetrable scales. Later, they are described as beautiful.
