Skunk Ape Skunk Ape

A hairy hominid most commonly found in the Florida Everglades and named for its very strong, foul odor. This creature is also occasionally sighted in other swampy areas of the Southern United States.

Other states with sightings include Arkansas, Georgia, and Mississippi.

Sightings of ape creatures have also been reported in remote mountain regions of North Georgia. These may be skunk apes that have wandered away from their natural habitat for some reason or they may be an entirely different creature.

They are bipedal and covered with medium length fur. They are reported to be dark brown or black, and from time to time, green. Some may have circular patches of lighter fur around the eyes and a bushy tail. The males stand around 7 feet tall and the females are a little smaller.

Unlike bigfoot the skunk ape can be aggressive. If you encounter a skunk ape you should immediately attempt to safely get away. Do not attempt to make contact or stick around for photos.

If you cannot get away, avoid looking the creature directly in the eye and keep your arms loose at your sides with your palms down. If possible take a flower or leaf and put it in your mouth and look at the creature briefly out of the corner of your eye.

Also known as napes (North American apes), swamp apes, stink apes, the Florida Sandman, and sometimes incorrectly referred to as the Florida bigfoot.
