Gold Dragon
Liza Phoenix, 2005
Polished, rich beyond compare, this is surely the King of Dragons
whatever his size. Not for him the wandering over lost lands seeking
morsels of food stolen from farmers. This sleek wyvern demands homage
paid directly to him, food of royal quality brought to the entrance of his
dwelling, which he would pick over, taking only the most succulent
pieces and discarding the rest.
Not for him the thrashing and flailing of
the leathery wings of his lower cousins. This creature need only flex
his rose-gold wings to rise gracefully above the earth, expending the
minimum of energy, should he choose to change location or take the morning
air. His inner heat keeps the golden surface of his scales supple, ever
renewing so that as he moves, a trail of gold dust is left in his wake.
His tail hangs like liquid dripping from a shelf. He has no need to
engage with us mere humans, he grants us only a glance from the corner of
his eye, yet he demands our full attention.
