Kaleidoscope (Psychedelic Fish)
Liza Phoenix, 2002
A frenzy of swirling colour bubbles, it is hard to tell where
this fish ends and the movement begins. Energetic and passionate, with a
sensuous gleeful smile, he curls and dances foretelling excitement and
perhaps a little danger, for his colour is red and firey orange. Liza
has expertly captured the fluid movement of this fish in this work as he
dives to the depths of his domain, dragging down the air with him as
jewels that stick to his scales and magnify and distort them. There is a
viscosity about him, as if he would drip not water but crushed berry
juice if he was lifted from his setting. Reminiscent of the fortune
telling fish that as children we all let flounder in our palms, this one's
smile suggests he knows who is in for a hot night!
